LIVING WILL / ADVANCE DIRECTIVEAn Advance Directive is also known as a ‘Living Will', it allows people to leave instructions about their possible medical treatment, in the event that they are not able of communicating their wishes, if necessary. Living Wills are an entirely separate issue from voluntary euthanasia, and should not be confused with the subject of ‘assisted dying'. What does it do? Many people fear that if they become seriously ill with no reasonable prospect of recovery they would suffer severe distress or be rendered incapable of rational existence. An Advance Directive informs your family and doctors of your wishes as stated when you were of ‘sound mind'. Not only does the document help the medical team in any difficult decision as they know the patients wishes, but it also eases the burden on any decision by the family, at a stressful time, because they know what you want in that circumstance. Cromwell & Co. recommends in certain circumstances that a Living Will Be prepared and we will draw the document up for you. |
